The Age of the Unthinkable

I am on my second reading of a book that has greatly challenged my thinking about the times and seasons in which we live. Joshua Cooper Ramo has written a captivating book called The Age of the Unthinkable: Why the New World Disorder Constantly Surprises Us and What We Can Do About It.

The book is well written, and I promise you it is a serious read that will leave you considering some significant issues as we think about the world in which we live and do our work. Let me give you a little taste of what he has to say.

"We are now at the start of what may become the most dramatic change in the international order in several centuries... This change is irresistible. It is infectious. It is change that will render institutions that look unshakable weak and unstable; it will elevate movements that look weak into positions of great power... As much as we might wish it, our world is not becoming more stable or easier to comprehend. We are entering, in short, a revolutionary age."

He continues: "In a revolutionary era of surprise and innovation, you need to learn to think and act like a revolutionary!"

Whether you serve in a nonprofit or a for-profit enterprise, we have entered the age of the UNTHINKABLE!
