Muscle Memory

The Bible says you should "be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). Other scriptures remind us that only God understands what is in our minds and hearts (see 1 Kings 8:39). And Jesus said that out of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34).

These verses remind us that God is the only one who can transform our minds. He works from the inside out to change our behavior.

Recently, Wired magazine featured "Harnessing the Power of Feedback Loops," an article that is well worth the read. It discusses how we as human beings can correct our behavior after receiving feedback. "We succeed," it states, "when we have some sense of where we stand and some evaluation of our progress."

The next thing you know, we'll have an app or some other technology to help us stop speeding, quit smoking, and control our overeating. Sounds promising, but I think it's an external bandage for a deep, internal problem.

What do you think? Will technology be the answer to internal and behavioral changes?
